Yet, once framed for a prank and confined to the institution for a weekend as punishment, our little hero's talents show when he and some pals opt to journey into the forbidden kitchen and make themselves some pancakes, and Magnus finds out he is quite an accomplished chef.The kids form a club known as the Scoffers: an organization whose goal is to make elaborate treats for itself once the lights go out and the others are in bed. In one scene, the club members, using recipes from Magnus' father, make all kinds of delicacies. One of them is a homemade alcohol-laced chocolate cake that gets the students rip-roaring drunk. The inebriated chums begin splashing around in the school pool and have great fun until the Latin teacher's lovely daughter joins them, and all hell breaks loose when they are caught.Trouble is, an older bully (Stuart Hawley) has plans to ruin all the fun since he fears the bright Magnus might take away the scholarship he was hoping to obtain for himself.Might the Scoffers pull off a major feast before the antagonist blows the whistle? A thoroughly enjoyable, adorable film that well captures the essence of childhood friendships and foes, even if in a slightly exaggerated manner; some of the cooking scenes are as cute as can be.
